Ala'A Mohsen came to Denmark in 2001 as an Iraqi refugee with his family. He graduated as a documentary director from the Danish Film School in 2015. His graduation film, ''Free My Hands'', was nominated for the Robert Award in 2016 and selected for the Dubai International Film Festival (UAE). In 2020, he premiered the documentary film ''A New Beginning'', which had its world premiere at CPH: DOX and was shown at several international film festivals, and on Denmark’s Radio and Norwegian NRK.
In 2022, he was selected for the Berlinale Talents, and received a work grant from Danish Arts Foundation. 
Ala'A is currently developing a fiction project supported by the Danish Film Institute with the title ''The Game'' and a documentary film ''Born to fight''.
Alongside his film work, he is a board member of the Danish Film Directors Association.
