Ala’A Mohsen came to Denmark in 2001 as an Iraqi refugee with his family. He grew up with one foot in the Iraqi community and the other in the Danish. He graduated as a documentary director from the National Film School of Denmark in 2015. His graduation film, ‘’Free My Hands’’, was nominated for a Danish Film Academy award in 2016 and selected for Dubai International Film Festival (UAE)He also directed ‘’Child of Iraq’’, an hour documentary that opened the Gulf Film Festival (UAE) in 2011 and was included in the selection for Malmø Arab Film Festival, Film from South Festival (Norway) and Salaam Film Festival (Denmark) where it was also the winning film. Additionally, it was broadcasted on the Danish public television channelDR2.
He has recently finished the feature documentary ‘’A New Beginning’’ that had its world premiere at CPH:DOX in the NEXT:Wave Competition.
